General travel information:

The conference venue is in Munich, in the south-east of Germany. It takes place in rooms of the faculty of mathematics and computer science of the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität. It is very close to the city center. Several stops of public transport are within walking distance. Munich is a stop of the German high-speed railway system (ICE/EC/IC). Major highways connect Munich with the northern and western part of Germany as well as to the south and east with Austria and the Czech Republic. Munich International Airport (MUC) is outside of Munich city. Two local railway lines connect the airport with the city center. Many international airlines offer direct flights to Munich.

The address of the conference venue is Theresienstrasse 39. The closest stop is "Pinakothek" (tram 27).


Getting there from the airport

If you are coming to Munich by plane you can easily reach the USM 2000 location by using the public transport. The trains start in the underground of the central area marked Z (between terminal B and C). You must have a valid ticket before you go down to the platform. Tickets are available at ticket vending machines. To get to the city center and/or the conference venue you must buy a one-way ticket for 4 zones (DM 15.20).

There are two railways line leaving from the airport: S1 and S8. Both go to Munich city center so just take the next train departing. To get to the conference leave the train at "Karlsplatz/Stachus" (approx. 45 minutes from the airport). From there, take the tram (streetcar) number 27 in direction "Petuelring". Get off at "Pinakothek" (third stop after Karlsplatz, approx. 5 minutes). The conference venue is in the building at the corner of your final stop.

Using a car or a taxi (approx. 100 DM) it takes about 30-45 minutes to the center or the conference.


Getting there by train

If you come to Munich by train you will arrive at the central station "Hauptbahnhof" (Hbf). Follow the green signs with an S to the underground stop of the "S-Bahn". You must go one (1) station from there to "Karlsplatz/Stachus". All trains on the platform in direction "Marienplatz" or "Ostbahnhof" go there. Leave the train at Karlsplatz and follow the signs to tram 27 going to Petuelring. Get off the tram at "Pinakothek" (5 minutes). A single trip costs 1.90 DM. You must buy your ticket before you go to the platform of the train. You can buy a ticket at a vending machine. Look for a "Kurzstrecke" ticket (short trip ticket).
